The Elephant Tea Rooms
Good to have a first look around this building this week – not often we get a building with elephants and dragons here in the North East! Built by Henry Hopper between 1872 and 1877 and designed by Frank Caws, the Grade II listed Tea Rooms are to be the new home of Sunderland Local Studies Library.
We have also this week started on site with Gateshead Library’s Local Studies refurbishment, which aims to open up this space to further encourage the general public to explore this rich collection.
