Overview:
The Old Low Light on the Fish Quay at North Shields was part of the original navigation guidance system at the mouth of the River Tyne. Later replaced by the New Low Light, the building saw many different uses, including as an almshouse and a teaching facility for the Deep Sea Fisheries Association.
The Net North Shields’s vision for the building now is that it forms the heritage hub for the Fish Quay- a community focus and lively venue focussed on the thriving life of the Fish Quay both historic and present.
We have been involved in the design and fit-out of the ground floor cafe and shop, and the top floor lettable events space along with the general fit-out elements of the rest of the building. The middle floor is a heritage exhibition space.
The two deconstructed photos shown here are by locally based artist Steve Mayes who used the Old Low Light as inspiration for a series of works. More of his pieces can be found at www.northeastexposure.co.uk
