MEA House

Overview:

We were appointed to consider options to introduce natural light and ventilation into an existing uncomfortable and underused office building in Newcastle city centre.

The scheme introduced a series of vertical windows that accentuated the shape and mass of the existing fabric whilst providing daylight, visual amenity and occupant controlled natural ventilation.

Each window has a ‘solar fin’ projecting from one side, giving a visual rhythm to the curve of the brick drum as well as protection from sun. A bronze-coloured, powder-coated steel was used for the windows and fins that compliments the dark brown brick of the existing building.
